Legislative Drafting

The legislative drafting practice at Firm goes to the very core of our diverse corporate and commercial practice areas. We have been a forerunner in providing comments on the Companies Act Bill of 2016, which has now come into law as the Companies Act, 2017. In our role as advisors, we have been involved in drafting numerous rules and regulations geared towards meeting governments’ development objectives including advising State Bank of Pakistan on drafting comprehensive secured transaction law in respect of security interests over movables and to create a registry for recording security interests over movables created by entities other than limited liability companies (in particular small and medium-sized enterprises and rural enterprises). Advising State Bank of Pakistan in drafted amendments to the Banking Companies Ordinance, 1962 to incorporate recommendations and core principles of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, and on instructions of the Privatization Commission drafting the legislation required to privatize the national air carrier (PIAC).

Moreover, Professionals of the Firm have been involved in drafting landmark legislations including the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority Ordinance, 2002 and federal and provincial privatization laws.
